The National Industrial Safety Council of Nigeria was established in May 1964 by a Cabinet decision under the sponsorship of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity.

It is a non-profit making tripartite organization consisting of Governments (Federal and States), Employers and workers representatives.

The council has branches in 36 states of the Federation including Federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja.

OBJECTIVES:
I. To promote organized method of occupational safety and health in all workplace and to advocate, advise upon,
disseminate, explain and advance the principles, methods

  and systems of their application at work generally.

II. To minimize avoidable death and injury by devising, recognizing, encouraging and promoting methods and procedures leading to improved safety, protection and health among all persons in public and private places throughout Nigeria.

III. To assist in the drafting and enactment of safety legislation.
